U-lite Linux

The first phase of site maintenance is complete. The majority of the site being down should be behind us now. As everyone can see, this phase was not only under the hood updates to Drupal and Modules, but also features a new theme to try out. Let me know if anyone experiences any problems with it.

Some major site maintenance is planned for July 2-5, 2009. The site may be down for small and/or significant ammounts of time durring this process. Any major delays will be announced on twitter at http://twitter.com/ulite.

I am proud to announce the second alpha release of U-lite 0.9. Several bugs and updates have happened since the first alpha release. Most noticeable is the change back to a more conservative light theme. This is because some programs did not look very good in the dark theme, but the dark theme is still available for those who wish to use it. Furthermore, I worked some on the package selection and worked on some choices such as the browser, email client, and ftp client. More is in the works!

I do not suggest people lacking experience with Linux to use this release yet.

I would like to announce that U-lite 0.9 is an alpha release now. It should be in a usable state, but remember that many changes are still going to occur before the final version. Furthermore, the metapackages do not include most of the options that will be present in subsequent releases.

I believe I have finished off the initial packaging of LXDE 0.4.1 and have sorted out the bugs I could. The next steps will be the creating of the U-lite metapackage and customizing the packages with U-lite artwork and such. I would encourage some of you who are more experienced with Linux to try testing out the packages in the repository. Please contact me to coordinate that effort, but most normal users should still not use U-lite 0.9 at this point.
