If you don't have root access rights to manage users privileges or other administrative issues...

... install policykit-gnome and it works (the unlock button in the panel finally works, at least this is what happened to me).
Hope this helps!
I'm a new user of Ubuntu Lite: I'm coming from TinyMe and I think U-Lite is really light but has all we need, even if we have an old pc.
Hope the U-lite project will work in the future and hope You will share with me impressions in using this distribution.
Bye.

Re: obtaining root access rights

Just installed U-lite on my elderly Celeron 600 laptop and encountered this problem. Found policykit-gnome in Synaptic and installed it... all now good. Rather impressed with the distro so far. I have used Ubuntu for several years and it is great to find a lightweight distro that is familiar to me. I am looking forward to exploring its possibilities. All the best!

thanks

I have been very happy with

I have been very happy with Tinyme too and was very impressed by ulite.
I will play some more with it and will consider adopting it.
It still uses more resources (eg Ram) than tinyme which was really frugal.

What I really like with ulite is that it is based on ubuntu which i believe is a very solid base for the future. I hope this will become mainstream, and that you guys will keep it small !

Thanks and keep on with the good work.
