U-lite 0.9 Alpha 2

I am proud to announce the second alpha release of U-lite 0.9. Several bugs and updates have happened since the first alpha release. Most noticeable is the change back to a more conservative light theme. This is because some programs did not look very good in the dark theme, but the dark theme is still available for those who wish to use it. Furthermore, I worked some on the package selection and worked on some choices such as the browser, email client, and ftp client. More is in the works!

I do not suggest people lacking experience with Linux to use this release yet.

To install this alpha, start with a cli install of Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope.

wget launchpad.net/~ulite/+archive/nemo/+files/nemo-ulite-keyring_0.9-0ulite1~ppa1_all.deb

sudo dpkg -i nemo-ulite-keyring_0.9-0ulite1~ppa1_all.deb

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install ulite-desktop

Reboot

A lot of space in hard disk

I've installed Ubuntu C.L.I. on a computer, and has been occupied 700MB. It's a lot of space for an only terminal system!

After that I've installed U-Lite, and doing "apt-get clean" also, the hard disk remains with 1.330MB occupied. This other quantity I suppose that can be severally reduced uninstalling software.

I wanna also share some of the characteristics of it,so that people may have better idea about it...
U-lite focuses on features, speed, and efficiency when selecting the default programs to accomplish the most common tasks computer users do. Thus, U-lite can run on computers which cannot run GNOME, KDE, or Xfce well.
U-lite makes use of the familiar Firefox and Thunderbird as the web browsing and email client respectively. U-lite, however, is also all about choice. Users can easily replace most applications with their favorites without breaking updates.
U-lite is ready for common office tasks because it is powered by the lightweight and effecient GNOME Office. This includes Abiword for word processing tasks and Gnumeric for spreadsheets.

Can I install the last version using the Mini Installer CD, and type after boot: cli and following this tutorial http://u-lite.org/content/get-u-lite ?

Yes you can use the Jaunty

Yes you can use the Jaunty Mini Install CD. You would type cli after and you would follow the tutorial in this post.

No, you cannot upgrade from 0.8 to 0.9 without a reinstall because it jumps over a version of ubuntu.
